Some years ago, Iris Bodenburg was my master student. How this came about, I don‘t remember, certainly through the Academy of Arts. From time to time I visited her in her studio in Halle, and sometimes she would bring her paintings to me in Leipzig. From the beginning I felt that she was a highly independent artist. She certainly wasn‘t aware of that, that‘s good, not reflected. I remember that in her everyday life it wasn‘t easy for her. Nevertheless, she was disciplined and continuously engaged in artistic work. A few days ago she sent me lots of photos of new works. I was and am fascinated. A natural, strong talent, nothing is invented, nothing is trendy. Her earnestness, her formal instinct, her natural contact with the „model“ is impressive. I really don‘t say and write this all that often: Iris Bodenburg is a unique artist, her work will persist into the years to come. Therefore I wish her a splendid and successful exhibition.

At this time, when the paintings of Iris Bodenburg are published in their own catalog, I do not want to miss the opportunity to express my warmest congratulations; combined with a vision that already anticipates the birth of its own great book of pictures. After complete training in Western art and painting for many years, Iris Bodenburg now appears before me as an artist of great accomplishment. I had the opportunity to see photographs of many of her paintings. All these works revealed her unusual painting talent. Now she is coming to faraway China to learn classical Chinese painting from me. This shows foresight and personal ambition. The painting of the world is basically divided into two categories: Western painting and Chinese classical painting - Eastern painting. Both systems are completely separate from each other, can be clearly characterized and cannot replace each other. Iris Bodenburg, as a painter of the Western school, is now opening herself to Chinese painting in such a way that I have every reason to believe that in the near future she will already enrich the splendor of world art with her extraordinary and versatile artistic magic.
